Date and Venue
EUGISES 2010 will run from Sept 09 (Thursday) - Sept 12 (Sunday) 2010. It will be held in Serres, Greece, a city located in the north part of the country, about 80 km from Thessaloniki, which is the biggest transportation hub in the area. There are many regular international flights from Thessaloniki to many other European cities and during the touristic season (between April and October) many charter flights as well. Then there is a bus service from Thessaloniki that runs every half an hour and takes approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the city of Serres.

Serres is referred rather early (5th century BC) in Greek history and has played a significant role being placed between two important rivers, Nestos and Strimonas. The surrounding area has a lot of natural beauty with main attractions being the Lake Kerniki (an artificial lake created to regulate the waters of Strimonas river) which is now a protected area and the Cave of Alistrati, one of the most beautiful in the country. Serres has about 100000 inhabitants, with about 10% of them being the students of TEI of Serres, giving a livelier note to the city.

TEI of Serres was founded in 1979, is publicly owned and belongs to the Greek tertiary education system since 1983. The T.E.I. consists of two Faculties, the Faculty of Applied Technology and the Faculty of Administration and Economics.

The total number of registered students amounts to 12000 whereas that of the teaching staff (both permanent and temporal) comes up to 400.

How to reach Serres from Thessaloniki
When you arrive at Thessaloniki's "Macedonia International Airport" (www.thessalonikiairport.gr/) you can take either a taxi or a city bus to reach the "Makedonia Bus Terminal Station".
  • If you take a taxi, ask the driver to take you to the "Makedonia Bus Terminal Station" and the cost will be between 15 and 30 euros depending on the time of day and the traffic.
  • If you take the city bus (No 78) you can start just outside the arrivals' building and the cost is 0,70 euros. The bus finishes at the bus terminal that is your destination.
From the "Makedonia Bus Terminal Station" you should look for the Serres' ticket issue window (as you enter the main entrance at the back and on your left) and buy at ticket for Serres at 7,20 euros currently. Buses run every half an hour starting at 6:30 in the morning and ending at 22:00 at night.

Organized Transportation
The organizers will make every effort to organize a joint transportation on Thursday for arrival and on Sunday for departure. Please let the organizers (eugises@eugises.eu) know when you arrive (exact arrival time) and when you depart (exact departure time) in order to facilitate the organization of a common transport.

The Hotel
The conference will take place at the ELPIDA RESORT Hotel (www.elpidahotel.eu/) located at the northeast corner of the city. If you have already sent your registration your name is already given to the reception along with your arrival and departure dates. To reach the hotel from the city (train or bus station) the easiest way is to take a taxi (approx. 5 - 6 euros) and tell the driver to take you to the ELPIDA RESORT HOTEL at the KOILADA valley. Walking is also possible but you should count for about 30min. The web site of the hotel has additional location information.
